Details, details, details...

I am reminded every day that the old adage “The devil is in the details!” rings true in our quest for high performance building construction—as much any other endeavor.

The inertia of the conventional construction industry continues to push methods and details that haven’t been reevaluated in the context of resilience and occupant comfort. Whether it's a structural system that enjoys multiple factors of redundancy at the expense of thermal efficiency, or assembly details and mechanical systems that ignore decades of research and material innovation allowing for higher quality indoor spaces, the result is the same: missed opportunities to create better buildings.

Let’s bring on 24”-spacing, properly detailed air barriers, and filtered ventilation systems to make sure our kids are living in healthier and more comfortable buildings!
